"Tea is the most popular manufactured drink consumed in the world, equaling all others – including coffee, chocolate, soft drinks, and alcohol – combined" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea#Economics Mengi proudly presents an ancient - yet modern - art form, not really discovered in Iceland: The Art of Tea. For the next 6 weeks we will be joining forces with two Hungarian tea lovers Olga & Andras, to present a pop up teahouse between May 6th - July 1st, called "Menghai Tea House". Menghai is a county in China, famous for their Puerh teas, also a tea producing factory that invented the modern method for aging Puerh tea. This method had a huge impact on the tea world. The project focuses on quality tea at its best, rather than the above mentioned quantity. Menghai Tea House presents a real gourmet menu - both for drinking on the spot or to take home. Some of them are harvested in March this year, some of them - the aged ones - are 19-25 years old. There will be a special focus on functional and beautiful accessories as well. Júlia Néma, probably the most known Hungarian ceramic artist made a few tea wares exclusively for Menghai Tea House, using high temperature wood firing pottery technique. Beside the gourmet experience, Olga and Andras aims to spread appreciation and understanding of quality tea by giving workshops, tasting sessions and gongfu tea ceremonies. links: https://www.facebook.com/menghaiteahouse mengi.net https://www.facebook.com/studionema /// Það gleður okkur að kynna fornt - en þó nútímalegt - listform sem er enn sem komið er tiltölulega óuppgötvað hérlendis: Listform Tegerðarinnar.

"A complete musician and wonderfully fertile composer... Black has produced a masterpiece of future jazz." -Andy Hamilton, The Wire "Fluent in all languages." -Time Out NY "wickedly inventive... A revelation." -CMJ Jim Black is at the forefront of a new generation of musicians bringing jazz into the 21st century. In addition to being one of the most influential drummers of our time, he is also the leader of one of the world's most forward-thinking bands, AlasNoAxis, featuring his longtime collaborators Chris Speed, Hilmar Jensson and Skúli Sverrisson. Based on the foundation of his virtuosic but highly personal approach to jazz drumming, Black's aesthetic has expanded to include Balkan rhythms, rock songcraft and laptop soundscapes. Though he is revered worldwide for his limitless technique and futuristic concepts, what many listeners treasure in most Jim Black's work is the relentless feeling of joy and invention he brings to his performances. Jim Black's smiling, kinetic, unpredictable presence has enthralled and inspired audiences worldwide for over twenty-five years. Since the mid-90's, Black has played a major role in the incorporation of new sounds and techniques into the jazz/creative music context. As a member of the collective group Pachora (with Speed, Sverrisson, and guitarist Brad Shepik) Black was one of the leaders in the study and adaptation of Balkan music into jazz-based music. His advanced techniques abstracted the odd time signatures of the Balkans into a new polyrhythmic language equally informed by modern jazz, drum&bass and the dumbeks of the Balkans. Black has also been an innovator in the use of electronics in improvisation, bridging the gap between electro-acoustic improv and more jazz-based traditions. Today, Black's performances are just as likely to feature his laptop-based electronic textures as his drumming. Born in 1967, Jim Black grew up in Seattle alongside future colleagues Chris Speed, Andrew D'Angelo and Cuong Vu. After cementing their personal and artistic relationships in Seattle's various youth jazz ensembles, in 1985 they moved to Boston, where Black entered the Berklee School of Music. In Boston, Black, Speed and D'Angelo formed Human Feel with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, which rapidly attracted the attention of the jazz cognoscenti in Boston, New York and beyond. By 1991, Black and the other members of Human Feel had moved to New York City, where they electrified the Downtown music scene then centered around the Knitting Factory and rapidly became among the city's busiest sidemen. Black's early years in New York saw him take featured roles in some of the most critically acclaimed bands of the time, like Tim Berne's Bloodcount, Ellery Eskelin's trio, and Dave Douglas's Tiny Bell Trio. Thus began fifteen years of near-constant touring and recording, with the above bands as well as artists like Uri Caine, Dave Liebman, Nels Cline, Steve Coleman, Tomasz Stanko, and Laurie Anderson. Hilmar Jensson has performed and recorded in a wide variety of settings and appeared on over 50 records including 8 as a leader or co-leader. Performed in 35 countries with his trio "TYFT", Jim Black’s AlasNoAxis, Trevor Dunn's MadLove, Mogil, Outhouse, BMX and others. One the founders of Kitchen Motors, an Icelandic record label, think tank and art organization. Recorded and/or performed with Tim Berne, Andrew D’Angelo, Jim Black, Chris Speed, Skuli Sverrisson, Trevor Dunn, Herb Robertson, Eyvind Kang, Marc Ducret, Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Cuong Vu, Tom Rainey, Peter Evans, Matt Garrison, Briggan Krauss, Ben Perowski, Jamie Saft, Ches Smith, John Zorn, Ted Reichmann, Ben Street, Wadada Leo Smith, Arve Henriksen, Terje Isungset, Per Jörgensen, Per Oddvar Johansen, Anders Jormin and many others. Osynliga Teatern works with choreographed acoustic experiences and express themselves in the boundary between performance and audio theatre. They create cinematic experiences where the audience are invited to become part of the story and the choreography and now are visiting Reykjavik with the immersive audiowalk Engram, a piece that asks the question - and makes you ask yourself the question: What if you only had 640 breaths left? This evening at Mengi Jens and Tomas will talk about their experience of creating Audio Walks. They will talk about how site-specific audio walks can uncover hidden stories all around us and that each story has a place and every place has a story, and of course - they will share some of their treasures for you to hear. Founding members of múm, Örvar Smárason and Gunnar Tynes return from their trip to Cappadoccia in Turkey, fresh and inspired for the third instalment in this series of performances at Mengi, where múm improvise electronic music to the same film with the aim ultimately writing a new score to the film or at least establishing a framework for a musical accompaniment. This time múm are joined by guitarist and all around creative motor Örn Eldjárn. múm are known for their exploratory and exuberant approach to music which can yield eclectic results. Witness to this bear their contrasting projects which range from releasing a single with Kylie Minouge to being commissioned to write a piece for the MDR Sinfonieorchester in Leipzig. múm’s latest album Smilewound was nominated for the Nordic Music Prize last year. Menschen am Sonntag is an often overlooked gem from 1930, a directorial debut for brothers Curt and Robert Siodmak and written by none other than Billy Wilder. Not only is the film one of the last of Germany's silent era cinema, but it follows a weekend in the life of a group of Berliners and is a rare glimpse into the lives of young and carefree people in a city that would soon be submerged in a dark shadow. Admission fee is 2000 kronur. For almost two years the Danish bass player, Richard Andersson, has been living in Reykjavik, where he has colaborated with a large number of the musicians from the local jazz scene. Now his stay here is sadly coming to an end. As the last act he is going to do his first solo concert ever. As a special treat the audience at this concert will get a free download of the yet to be released album, which Richard recorded in December 2012 in Boston at the home of the drum guru, Ra-Kalam Bob Moses. The recording features: George Garzone - saxophone, Jerry Bergonzi - saxophone, Ra-Kalam Bob Moses - drums, Richard Andersson - Bass Biography Richard Andersson was born in October 1982. He grew up in a musical family, but never showed much interest in music. ”My parents strongly encouraged me to play classical piano, but I never bothered to practice. Yet I did have a secret dream about becoming a cool guitarist, mostly to impress the girls...”. At the age of 14 everything changed, when childishly playing around with fireworks took away Richard's sight. Soon after the accident Richard started taking lessons in classical guitar and suddenly he saw the beauty of music. ”Later I took up the piano again, then rock/jazz guitar and at age 16 the bass became my main instrument”. Richard Andersson earned his diploma degree at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, in Odense, Danmark (2008). He studied in the masters program at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York (2008-2009), and is currently enrolled at the Rhythmic Conservatory in Copenhagen, studying in the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma program. In the spring of 2010 Richard Andersson received the biggest danish prize for young jazz talents called ”Stjerneprisen”. Later the same year he released his first CD as a bandleader. Richard Andersson Sustainable Quartet/ Please Recycle (BlackOut Music) features three great New York based musicians including saxophone player Tony Malaby. The CD was very well received and achieved excellent reviews in both Scandinavia and New York. In New York, AllAboutJazz placed it on the list of ”Best Danish Releases of 2010”. Also in 2010 Richard Andersson was awarded ”Funen Jazz Musician of the Year”. (Funen is one of Denmarks three main islands/peninsulas). Despite his relatively young age Richard Andersson is already ”one of the most interesting characters of the Danish jazz scene” (Iver Rod/Gaffa), performing with Danish and international artists such as Jeff ”Tain” Watts (US), Bob Moses (US), Phil Markowitz (US), Andrew D’Angelo (US), Dave Kikoski (US), Bill McHenry (US), Tony Malaby (US), Rudi Mahall (DE), Tomas Franck (S), Kasper Tranberg (DK), Jesper Zeuthen (DK), Ben Besiakov (DK), Uffe Steen (DK), Loren Stillman (US), George Garzone (US), Frank Tiberi (US), Kresten Osgood (DK), Jacob Anderskov (DK), Henrik Walsdorf (DE). Richard Anderssons second album, Richard Andersson/ Intuition (Stunt Records) features one of Denmarks most significant pianists, Jacob Anderskov besides the great saxophone player Bill McHenry (US) and drummer R.J. Miller (US). Music Critic Iver Rod (Gaffa Music Magazin) wrote: ”Sublimely beautiful improvisational music. The result of the insistence of a focused, musical being.” The entrance fee is 2.000 krónur. // Danski bassaleikarinn, Richard Andersson, hefur búið í Reykjavík í tæp tvö ár og unnið með fjölda tónlistarmanna úr djassheiminum. Og nú er komið að kveðjustund. Á síðustu tónleikum sínum hér (í bili) mun hann koma fram einn síns liðs í allra fyrsta sinn. Að þessu tilefni vill hann gleðja áheyrendur og gefa þeim ókeypis niðurhal af óútgefinni plötu sinni sem hann tók upp í desember 2012, nánar tiltekið í Boston á heimili trommugúrúsins, Ra-Kalam Bob Moses. Fram koma á plötunni: George Garzone - saxófónn, Jerry Bergonzi - saxófónn, Ra-Kalam Bob Moses - trommur, Richard Andersson - bassi. Æviágrip Richard Andersson fæddist í október 1982. Hann ólst upp með tónlistarfjölskyldu en sýndi aldrei mikinn áhuga á tónlist. "Foreldrar mínir hvöttu mig eindregið til að æfa á píanó, en ég nennti sjaldan að æfa mig á það. Svo var það alltaf leyndur draumur hjá mér að verða flottur gítarleikari, aðallega til að vekja hrifningu kvenna... ". Þegar Richard var 14 ára breyttist allt. Hann lenti í alvarlegu flugeldaslysi og missti sjónina. Fljótlega eftir sjónarmissinn byrjaði Richard að læra á klassískan gítar og sá þá svo sterkt fegurð tónlistarinnar. "Seinna settist ég aftur við píanóið, spilaði á rokk/djass gítar og þegar ég var 16 ára varð bassinn mitt aðal hljóðfæri". Richard Andersson lauk prófi frá Carl Nielsen Academy of Music í Odense í Danmörku (2008). Hann stundaði meistaranám í hinum virta Manhattan School of Music í New York (2008-2009) og stundar nú nám við Rhythmic Conservatory í Kaupmannahöfn. Vorið 2010 fékk hann stærstu verðlaun sem ungir efnilegir djassistar geta hlotið í Danmörku og kallast "Stjerneprisen". Síðar sama ár gaf hann út sína fyrsta plötu sem hlaut frábæra dóma bæði í Skandinavíu og New York. Í New York komst platan á lista All About Jazz yfir bestu dönsku plötu ársins 2010. Þrátt fyrir tiltölulega ungan aldur hans Richards er hann nú þegar "einn af áhugaverðustu tónlistarmönnum dönsku djass senunnar" (Iver Rod / Gaffa) og hefur komið fram með bæði dönskum og alþjóðlegum listamönnum á borð við Jeff "Tain" Watts (USA), Bob Móse (USA), Phil Markowitz (USA), Andrew D'Angelo (USA), Dave Kikoski (USA), Bill McHenry (USA), Tony Malaby (USA), Rudi Mahall (DE), Tomas Franck (SE), Kasper Tranberg (DK), Jesper Zeuthen (DK), Ben Besiakov (DK), Uffe Steen (DK), Loren Stillman (USA), George Garzone (USA), Frank Tiberi (USA), Kresten Osgood (DK), Jakob Anderskov (DK), Henrik Walsdorf (DE). For the second year in a row, the Reykjavík Arts Festival and culture house Mengi will collaborate on a concert series during the festival. Mengi has for the past few years run a vibrant programme, boosting Reykjavík’s cultural life with various events such as concerts and musical happenings, receiving nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards and the DV Culture Prize. This year, Mengi will host four concerts during the festival. Four Saturdays in a row, women musicians will appear at Mengi; women who are either at the height of their career or taking their first steps in the music world. In her new solo performance Maya Dunietz explores space through airwaves. Through voice, piano and a unique projection technique Dunietz plays with layers – layers of sound, image and consciousness. The piece includes an exploration of spirals and loops and deals with the materialization of sound. Coming from the notion that music is movement of air in space, Dunietz is creating a multi-sensual experience. For this new piece Dunietz developed unique technologies including a tiny wireless mouth-speaker, projections of body on body, acoustic feedback and a multi-dimensional electro acoustic sound layer. This work was created for Palais de Tokyo, 2014. Video & Sound by Daniel Meir. Maya Dunietz , born in 1981, is a composer, pianist and sound artist. Her work ranges between composing for ensembles and choirs, performing as pianist and singer, creating performance and sound installations, and building electronic instruments. Úr hugmyndinni um tónlist, sem hreyfingu lofts innan rýmis, skapar hún upplifun fyrir mörg skilningarvit. Fyrir þetta nýja verk hefur hún þróað einstaka tækni, m.a. lítinn þráðlausan hátalara sem hægt er að hafa í munninum, vörpun líkama á líkama, afturverkun hljóðs og margvítt lag af raf-akústísku hljóði. Evolving over the last four years, A Solo Voice by Odeya Nini is an investigation of extended vocal techniques, resonance and pure expression, exploring the relationship between mind and body and the various landscapes it can yield. The work is a series of malleable compositions and improvisations that include field recordings and theatrical elements, aiming to dissociate the voice from its traditional attributes and create a new logic of song that is not only heard but seen through movement. Through multi-dimensionality that serves to both provoke and soothe in abstract communication, the voice is presented in its spectrum of natures as it travels through cultures, ages, emotions and colors, like photographs, with tender intimacy and bold aberrance. Archie Carey - Solo Bassoon A sonic exploration offering new creative possibilities from the bassoon, as a character and as a tool for realized imagination. Bios: Odeya Nini is a Los Angeles based experimental vocalist and contemporary composer. At the locus of her interests are textural harmony, gesture, tonal animation, and the illumination of minute sounds, in works spanning chamber music to vocal pieces and collages of musique concrète. Her solo vocal work extends the dimension and expression of the voice and body, creating a sonic and physical panorama of silence to noise and tenderness to grandeur. Odeya’s work has been presented at venues and festivals around the US and internationally from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv, Odessa, Mongolia and Vietnam. Odeya holds a BFA from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where she studied with Theo Bleckmann and Gerry Hemingway, and an MFA in composition from California Institute of the Arts. Her debut album Vougheauxyice (Voice), for solo voice, was released in April of 2014. Archie Carey is a composer and a bassoonist living in Los Angeles. As a performer he plays music from the middle ages to the avant-garde, finding enjoyment in the details of many genres. His work as a composer aims to magnify sound, pitch, timbre, and environment to make the subtlest details a point of focus, achieved by using long durations, alternative tuning systems, and contrasts between extremely high volumes and silence. In solo work and in collaboration he has been experimenting with field recording, analog electronics, and aspects of performance art, drawing inspiration from natural phenomenon and personal experience. Archie is an active member of new music ensembles wildUp and the Joshua Trio, as well as several improvisation groups. Four Saturdays in a row, women musicians will appear at Mengi; women who are either at the height of their career or taking their first steps in the music world. Galagalactic is an ode to infinity. It spirals in a figure eight pattern, all directions simultaneous. Every grain of sand magnified reveals a unique form and color as every sound has it´s own distinct texture and overtones. In Galagalactic, Gyda Valtysdottir, armed with bow and cello, will embroider moments of the infinite and offer to the audience a spiraling path to the inner spheres of the senses Gyða Valtýsdóttir is a polychromatic performer, trained and untamed classically. After meeting randomly at an amateur soccer practice, Icelandic musician/producer Ólafur Björn Ólafsson (Óbó) and Norwegian musician/composer Jo Berger Myhre began spending late nights creating music together in Ólafssons studio in Gufunes. Utilizing their backgrounds from filmmusic and improvisation respectively, Ólafsson and Myhre meet with a common interest in producing music where improvised ideas act as a canvas on which widened soundscapes are spread out. Starting off by pairing Ólafssons lonely drum patterns and/or warm keyboards with the bleak yet dark sound of Myhres double bass, they invite each other and the listener to join a musical trip that confuses the idea about whether the musicians are following the music or the other way around. The result is a solemn sound hinting at persian classical music, ambient, improv and decomposed riffs. The concert at Mengi on June 12th will be their first appearance together and showcase a work-in-progress by two very special musical personalities. Ólafur Björn Ólafsson (Óbó), has been a featured musician on the Icelandic music scene for many years. After playing with a.o. Sigur Rós, Jónsi, múm and Nix Noltes, he released his solo debut "Innhverfi" on Morr Music in 2014 to much critical acclaim. He is also doing steady work composing and recording music for films. Jo Berger Myhre is a Norwegian bass player temporarily residing in Reykjavík. His main project is the drone-jazz band Splashgirl, soon to release their fifth album. Additional work includes the unique Swedish singer/songwriter Mariam the Believer (Wildbirds&Peacedrums), Norwegian trumpet legend Nils Petter Molvær, occasional collaborations with a.o. Susanna, Frida Ånnevik and composing for visual and scenic artists. // Eftir óvænt kynni á fótboltaæfingu áhugamanna hófu hinn íslenski Ólafur Björn Ólafsson (Óbó), tónlistarmaður og framleiðandi og norska tónskáldið og tónlistarmaðurinn Jo Berger Myhre að eyða löngum kvöldstundum í að skapa tónlist saman í stúdíói Ólafs Björns í Gufunesi. He has disturbed the community he lives in for some years with extensive and remarkable performances where he works with social taboos like politics and religion. He has observed the reactions of the society, that is peoples response when accepted values are turned upside down, for example when a powerless individual takes in his hands power that normally is assigned by predetermined rules. The queen of Berlin underground, Mary Ocher is possibly possessed by demons, perhaps by ghosts of deceased prophets. She has toured far and wide and will reach this time around quite a few new and exciting spots! Her recent official album was produced by Canadian Rock&Roll guru King Khan (Black Lips) and came out on 4 labels so far (2 in Europe, 2 in the US), followed by a double anthology of home recordings from the past 10 years. Garage/Avant-Pop. Wonderfully raw and biting. Not to be missed! Bio: Mary Ocher was born on November 10, 1986 in Moscow, Russia. Fate brought her to Tel Aviv at the tender age of 4 and to Berlin at 20. She has been playing with various media, be it words, sound, color or movement since mastering the craft of songwriting at the age of 11. Disillusioned by the mainstream music industry, she set her mind on accomplishing everything DIY. With her first band, Mary and The Baby Cheeses, that notion led to releasing 5 limited edition independent releases. The band toured all over Europe, in the underground circles, but that wasn't enough for young Ocher, she wanted to see blood! ''War Songs" was the first label release, it came out on the Berlin based label Haute Areal on March 11th 2011, then followed a 7'' EP. Both received incredibly wonderful reviews. Other than being a stunning musician, Mary makes film, visual art, documentaries, music videos, art installations and poetry. She has become an integral part of the upcoming international Berlin cream and has recently joined the international art collective Autodiktat. In 2011, she was discovered by King Khan at a karaoke Bar in Berlin. He immediately invited her to record at his legendary Moon Studios. The album took over a year to finish but it finally came out on Buback (Hamburg) on June 14, 2013. IN THE MEANTIME, SHE HAS LAUNCHED THE NEW-TRIBALISM ACT, YOUR GOVERNMENT, WITH AN INCREDIBLE DRUMMER DUO, And toured along the German best-selling author, Sibylle Berg, for her novel "Vielen Dank fuer Das Leben". Mary Ocher continues to bewilder audiences with her powerful performances and incredible out-of-this-world voice. Her wild outfits have also caused quite a stir on the scene. She currently resides in Berlin and has no plans at all.... only WORLD DOMINATION!!!! www.maryocher.com

Gray Area in Mengi Opening night celebration with surprises of the finest kind with secret guests joining forces with festival artists. In his day, Frederic Chopin was described as a good pianist until midnight, but a great one thereafter. Fully embodying the idea of the romantic genius, Chopin would sit down at the piano late at night in the smoke-filled salons of Paris and improvise with otherworldly abandon, much to the delight of his friends. Some of his greatest works were conceived in this way, during the dusky evening sessions he himself referred to as ‘the gray hour’. The next morning he would, without fail, soberly refine his conceptions and discipline them into forms fit for posterity - but his inspiration was a nocturnal creature. In the spirit of Chopin, we have organised three very special events that do not conform to the traditional recital format, and have been given the name The Gray Area. Our artists will announce each programme on the spot before performing their selected works in an intimate house concert-style setting. The Suitable World: Seeking One Perfect Thing A History, A Performance, A Quest. American artists Joshua-Michéle Ross and Yvette Molina show work from The Suitable World at Mengi. The Suitable World documents a 28-day journey across Iceland wearing a single three-piece suit. It is about seeking a balance between beauty and utility in the things we carry with us and the social dynamics that occur when wearing a suit in places it clearly does not belong. It is also a meditation on trying to preserve the things we love against the relentless wearing effect of time. The show will include photography and video. Meet the artists on day 24 of the project (still wearing “the suit”). They hope to still be in presentable condition!

Gray Area in Mengi Adagio in the Memory of Beethoven. We observe a magical, moonlit meeting of Shostakovich and Beethoven. Come to the Gray Area at Mengi during the gray hours of the night and enjoy a full technicolor spectrum of music in a friendly and informal atmosphere. A perfect way to end an evening. /// Gráa svæðið í Mengi Adagio í minningu Beethovens. Við fylgjumst með fundi Beethovens og Shostakovich í glampandi tunglskini. Kinsomiðja presents Cherry Kino, a sister lab dedicated to experimental 16mm and super8 filmmaking from England. A screening of super colourful hand-processed films made on Super 8 and 16mm film by analogue film artist Cherry Kino! Come and watch a salty love letter to the sea, a film made entirely with 'nail art' materials, an eco-film of the Finnish forest, a solarized celebration of an island populated by crabs and seagulls, a look at maritime aggression, a carnival film, a sexy park, and a fairground attraction extravaganza! The screening also features three collaborations, 'Sight by Sonar' made with Christian Hardy where images of love, death and regeneration combine in an intimate homage to a dead bat, 'Bad Blood', a poetry film made with the Brutalist poet Adelle Stripe, and 'Nail Art' made with the musician Kathy Alberici. Cherry Kino creates her films on Super 8 and 16mm, which are both processed and edited by hand. She explores a variety of processes, including cross-processing, solarizing, contact printing, rayograms, toning, inking, bleaching, burying, and good old shooting too! Her aim as an analogue filmmaker is to express personalized visions and emotions in a sensual way that can be physically felt and known by the cinema audience. Her films reveal an attraction to material and sensual experiences, discovering how emotions materialize without words and how the physical presence of the image is revealed in our bodies. http://kinosmidja.org http://www.cherrykino.com https://vimeo.com/cherrykino Entrance fee is 2000 kronur Cherry Kino, screening: Salt (16mm) - 07:48 Peach (16mm) - 11:34 Iron Work (16mm) - 03:39 Nail Art (16mm, with a digital soundtrack) - 02:53 Attraction (Super 8 & 16mm, shown on digital) - 11:16 Crab Island (Super 8, shown on digital) - 05:37 A Ramble in Serralves Park (Super 8, shown on digital) - 04:42 Sight by Sonar (Super 8, shown on digital) - 06:08 The Garden of Polymitas (Super 8, shown on digital) - 09:30 Bad Blood (Super 8, shown on digital) - 04:23 Alana and the Carnival (Super 8, shown on digital) - 03:45 Maritime (end of the line) (Super 8, shown on digital) - 03:06 Silva Shade (Super 8, shown on digital) - 04:17 Berlin Blue (Super 8, shown on digital) - 02:48 /// Kinosmiðja kynnir systursmiðju sína, Cherry Kino frá Englandi! **Opening Event on June 24th with Sirkus photos and Sirkus performers! Photos on exhibit until July 15th** Last summer, American photographer Jeaneen Lund flew from New York to Iceland and spent 5 weeks documenting the journey of Iceland’s first and only traveling circus, Sirkus Íslands, as they zig-zagged through 5 towns around the country. She set out to capture this unique fusion of culture, performance, landscape, and visual excitement through photos and videos. Sirkus Íslands is a home grown, family style Sirkus with 26 talented performers. They do everything themselves - set up the tent, prepare the food, sell the candy floss & popcorn, then put all of their energy into their 3 shows and dazzle the audience. Last year they sold over 22,000 tickets to locals and foreigners, and unlike many other circuses, no animals are used in their shows. The 3 Sirkus shows are: Heima er best - Family show with acrobats, clowns, balancing acts, cyr wheel and much more! S.I.R.K.U.S. - Children’s show, aimed towards preschool age, but also entertaining for adults. Skinnsemi - 18+ Adult cabaret variety show with fun, tongue-in-cheek humor and circus themed acts. Definitely for the open minded audience, ready for a fun time! In addition to the images Jeaneen captured of the performers building the tent, quiet moments backstage, on-stage performances and life on the road, she hiked with them to stunning remote locations where she created environmental portraits of them. Icelandair will publish a 4 page photo essay with Jeaneen's Sirkus photos in their July/Summer 2015 issue. On June 24th, a selection of images will be exhibited at Mengi in Reykjavik. The opening will also involve Sirkus flair, with performers! The exhibition will run until July 15th at Mengi - Odinsgata 2, Reykjavik. The Sirkus Íslands summer tour can be found at: www.sirkus.is You can see more of Jeaneen Lund’s photos/videos at: www.jeaneenlund.com /// Opnunar viðburður með myndum og skemmtiatriðum frá Sirkus Íslands! Myndasýningin verður í gangi þar til 15. júlí. Síðasta sumar flaug ameríski ljósmyndarinn Jeaneen Lund frá New York til Íslands og varði 5 vikum í að skjalfesta ferðalag Sirkus Íslands um 5 bæjarfélög víðs vegar um landið, en sirkusinn er fyrsti og eini ferðasirkusinn sem landsmenn hafa átt. Hún lagði upp með að fanga þessa einstöku blöndu menningar, framkomu, landslags og spennandi augnakonfekts í gegnum ljósmyndir og myndbönd. Sirkus Íslands er heimatilbúinn, fjölskylduvænn Sirkus með 26 hæfileikaríkum skemmtikröftum. Þau sjá um alla hluti sjálf - setja upp tjaldið, útbúa matinn, selja sælgætið og poppið, en setja að auki alla sína orku í sínar 3 sýningar og heilla áhorfendur upp úr skónum. Í fyrra seldu þau rúmlega 22.000 miða til bæði heimamanna og ferðamanna en ólíkt mörgum öðrum sirkúsum eru engin dýr með í för. Sirkus sýningarnar þrjár eru: Heima er best - Fjölskylduskemmtun með fimleikaatriðum, trúðum, jafnvægisæfingum, cyr hjóli og ýmsu fleira! S.I.R.K.U.S.
