Kontinuum have been noted to possess that special something that unites both the kvlt metal elitists and pre-pubescent Dimma fanboys in celebration. Their atmospheric rock has all the heaviness of death metal, with the melancholy of art rock, and the energy of punk. They’re explosive, withdrawn and aggressive, yet have a measured step. They are joined by hardcore band Muck, our last issue’s cover stars, who have serious accolades of their own. Riding off of the success of their latest album, ‘Your Joyous Future’, their live shows are second to none. They play very fast, yet very tight, and their dynamic sound is made all the more impressive by their mind-bogglingly complicated time signatures. Don’t miss this show.
British punk veteran TV Smith, former member of the Adverts (and more than a handful of other rock acts from all over the world), will be bringing his gravelly voice and critical lyrics to the Gaukurinn stage. While TV Smith is known for shattering ears since ’76, it looks like his weapon of choice as of late is simply an acoustic guitar (and his signature guns, displayed via tank top). Reykjavík locals Fræbbblarnir and Gímaldin will join.
Fræbblarnir are legendary as the oldest Icelandic punk band, formed in 1978 by a few friends in Kópavogur junior college. This is your chance to experience authentic Icelandic punk so visit Gaukurinn. You can also get to know the one-man-band gímaldin (with a lower-case ‘g’ out of modesty). He’s a versatile musicians with ties to the underground icelandic-folk community.

Performing classics like “Rehab”, “You Know I’m No Good”, and “Tears Dry On Their Own”, the band includes not only guitars but also trumpets and saxophones. Some of the more morose Reykjavík musicians will be crawling out of the shadows to put on a witchy Wednesday night at Gaukurinn. The “gloomy poetry-punk” trio of Kælan Mikla will headline, darkening the mood with their shrieky yet atmospheric sound. Electronic producer ULTRAORTHODOX will also be adding sharp and sinister sounds to the night, along with the semi- un-Googleable russian.girls, the experimental project of Guðlaugur Halldór Einarsson of Fufanu. russian.girls, will deliver some narcotic vibes and smooth n’ sexy beats, which may seem relatively upbeat compared to the other acts of the night.
