Chili and the Whalekillers - Airwaves

Chili and the whalekillers

From the ever-avant-garde city of Vienna emerges Chili and the Whalekillers, an Icelandic-Austrian five-piece Band, loaded with an array of artfully crafted pop-songs with considerable danceability. Their third album Turn (2013) was received with acclaim from critics and audiences alike, its eponymous single topping at third place in the Icelandic radio charts in early 2014. Musically Chili and the Whalekillers can only be described as diverse: Dreamy-Pop coloured by 60’s psychadelia, Indie, Folk and even Surf Rock. Their genre crossing is as effortless as their changing up of the instruments on stage yet there is a constant feeling of coherence, a shared spirit and substance. Initially drawn in by the captivating melodies of the band, the listener soon finds himself repeatedly discovering new depths in the rich retro-inspired sound and the continental aesthetic of their lyrics. Images of beauty, lemon gardens, French girls and train rides are evoked, but the bands strong political consciousness is never far off. In May 2015 the band released the mini album “a dot in the sky” and went on their first UK -tour. Chili and the Whalekillers played 11 shows in 10 days, including concerts at The Great Escape Festival and Liverpool Sound City. Also BBC radio stations – among others – invited them to live sessions and interviews. Returning home, Chili and the Whalekillers finished the production of their 4th LP which is due to be released in November 2015 – followed by an extensive tour through Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom.

MOURN - Airwaves

Iðnó

Mourn

MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz and Carla, both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel. Despite being teenagers, they came out of the studio (along with a couple new recruits—drummer Antonio and bassist Leia) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who have had the opportunity to hear it.

The Vintage Caravan - Airwaves

Iðnó

Vintage caravoan

The Vintage Caravan are a young band hailing from the Greater Reykjavik area. The Band was originally founded around 2006 when the band members were very young. However, it did not become a serious project until 2009. The Vintage Caravan are known for their energetic stage performance and have been very active live for the past few years. Since 2011 the band has released two LPs with the latter being released by one of the largest record labels in Iceland, Sena which they made a deal with in early 2012. That same year bassist Alex Örn joined the group. In early 2014 the biggest heavy metal record label in the world, Nuclear Blast Records, re-released the second album, Voyage, for the international market. The Vintage Caravan went on their first ever European tour last March which was followed with two shows at the highly respected Roadburn Festival in early April. One of which was curated by Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. They are also scheduled to play on numerous festivals this summer including: Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Lake on Fire, Stoned From The Underground, Eistnaflug and many more. Musical influences are very diverse but mainly include the classic hard rock of the 60’s and 70’s. Though the influence may suggest a glorified retro-type band, The Vintage Caravan do it in their own way with a powerful attitude and a modern twist. The Vintage Caravan released their latest album ‘Arrival’ in May 2015.
